It All Begins With A Script

While I was working at ECG Productions, I wanted to create a project that would be something the entire team, if they were interested in it, could help with. With that in mind, I thought it would be a fun idea to have something animated, but with live-action plates. I planned to film the locations with no actors or stand-in props, then make 3D characters to live in that space. And if we were going to have CG characters, we needed them to be something fantastic. And so, a robot band was born.

The project had a lot of enthusiasm behind it, and we were able to brainstorm, storyboard, and write scripts. We were even able to write, perform, and mix our own original song for the short. Eventually, the realities of COVID and working at a busy production studio caught up with us, and production ground to a halt, but I always kept the dream alive. Eventually, we decided to go all animation, dropping the live-action element and were able to make a lot of progress in storyboarding, and pre-visualization.

We got as far as starting work on the animatic. Unfortunately, my time at ECG Productions came to an end, but that doesn’t mean 8-Bit Bootup has to. I plan to continue to work on it and complete the film so many of us were excited for and spent so much time and effort on.

I wanted to share with everyone an early version of the script I wrote. There have been a lot of changes made since this time, and maybe I will be able to share the final iteration with everyone at some point. But until then, you can look forward to many more interesting updates in the coming weeks and months!

I want to thank everyone at ECG Productions for all their help and dedication. Thanks especially to Emily, Alesso, Seb, Anneli, and Jordan, without whom none of this would have happened!
